Guntir is 287-years-old, and at his advanced age he's forgotten as much of his life as he remembers, if not more. He grew up in a small hill dwarf community around the site of modern-day Lake Tanic.
Guntir once loved a dwarven woman named Brunhilde, and sought her hand in marriage, but left his village for reasons he has not yet revealed to The Gang, and returned to find the entire village desolate.
After losing the love of his life, Guntir spent time as a conman. He worked as "Tall Gram" for infamous criminal boss The Wolf, until he botched a heist of a valuable sapphire during a political party in the Muddtown Alchemist's Association halls.
At some point in his life, Guntir also found his way into The Priesthood of Thunder. Having been caught trying to steal something, the silver-tongued dwarf managed to convince the followers of Kord that he had come to join. Unable to escape, he eventually attained the brand (and abilities) of a cleric, and was sent out to preach to word of strength for Kord. This brand has begun to glow with a faint, electric blue over time. For his part, Guntir is only aware of the magic he uses roughly 65% of the time; the rest is instinctual, such as his pointed and screaming "go away!" to cast banishment.
Guntir has seen many friends and allies die over the years, and the experience has turned him quite bitter. When he met The Finger Gang, he was a force of chaos that attempted to steal anything that wasn't nailed down; things that were nailed down would also receive equal attention, but often less success. This quickly earned him the confidence of the black tabaxi swashbuckler Morwen, and the two often pulled quick scams on townsfolk.
The first to get through to Guntir truly was Thistle, the firbolg who the group had picked up in Captain's Keep. The friendly, naive giant-kin was a true innocent, and Guntir found himself focusing on helping the young Thistle learn to protect himself. Slowly, Guntir began to be a little bit less chaotic. When Thistle was slain in The Heart of Sunrest, Guntir briefly spiraled back into his chaotic habits. Guntir still attaches elements of Thistle's teal attire around his waist.
Guntir has a love/hate relationship with Heinrich; the two often argue over action and caution, but have also saved each-other's lives a half-dozen times each. Heinrich in particular has gone to great lengths to help Guntir, despite claiming to frequently be annoyed. When Guntir's soul was captured in a Planar Prison Sphere, Heinrich led the group through great danger to recover him.
Guntir's relationship with Shae has been mostly antagonistic. Shae's quick temper and Guntir's rash actions have not gone well together, and Guntir has taken more than a dozen blows to the face from the young monk's fists. Guntir has also formed strong relationships to Krawtic, the aarakocra that Shae grew up alongside, and Gambol Overbrook, Shae's adoptive uncle, which seems to have irked Shae further.
Guntir recently lost all of his belongings when he was impaled by the Ninth Path monks and left for dead, which allowed the monks to obtain what they needed to open the gateway to Kalipsos.
